GODONGWANA URGES COMMUNICATION BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AND BUSINESS PEOPLE

Addo-ONE of the major functions of the government was to work with all citizens of this country irrespective of their political
affiliation, Economic Affairs, Environment and Tourism MEC Enoch Godongwana said here on Monday.

Addressing local business people during the provincial executive councils outreach programme, he urged businesses to inform the government
about their concerns and what they thought should be done to improve working relations between government and business.

"We want to create a conducive environment together with you." The local business community reacted quickly and informed the MEC that
infrastructure in the small town needed to be improved.

It was argued in the meeting that the town lacked toilet facilities and the main road from Port Elizabeth needed to be upgraded to attract
more people to the town and the nearby Addo National Elephant Park.

As the economic base of this area was based on agriculture, security was a major concern. One businessman argued that crime in the area was
poverty driven and if ways of addressing unemployment could be found, crime be reduced tremendously.

Addo Tourism Vice Chairperson, Clive Reed argued that the park formed part of the economic engine of the area."

"Over 100 000 people visit the Addo Park a year."He proposed that if a cultural village could be built at Motherwell it will lead tourists
straight to Addo.

"We are also convinced that an information center and a museum here will help tourists to know more about the town."

MEC Godongwana tasked the departments Western Region Director, Monde Maqula as well as managers of the Eastern Cape Tourism Board and
Eastern Cape Development Corporation to work closely with the local community in order to submit a business plan to him by the end of this
month.

Areas being covered this week also included Kareedouw, Jeffreys Bay and Humansdorp
